Restoring Agency: An Ontological re-examination of identity, sin, the Cross, and Human Freedom

What if the greatest problem facing humanity is not sin, failure, trauma, or circumstance—but the loss of agency?

In Restoring Agency , Hughes Mileng invites readers on a profound journey into the nature of identity, freedom, consciousness, and relationship through the lens of Scripture. Moving beyond conventional religious explanations, this book offers an ontological re-examination of humanity's story—from the Garden of Eden to the Cross of Christ—and explores what it means to live as sons and daughters of God.

Drawing from biblical reflection, personal experience, systems thinking, mediation practice, and decades of study, Mileng examines how shame, fear, blame, and distorted perceptions can disconnect us from our true identity and capacity to choose. He argues that the work of Christ is not merely about forgiveness but about restoring humanity's ability to see clearly, love freely, and participate fully in divine life.

Through fresh insights into identity, sin, consciousness, the Kingdom of God, and human freedom, Restoring Agency challenges readers to reconsider long-held assumptions and discover a deeper understanding of themselves, God, and their relationships with others.

This is a book for seekers, leaders, thinkers, disciples, and anyone longing to move beyond survival into a life marked by clarity, purpose, presence, and authentic freedom.

You were created with agency. This book is an invitation to recover it.
