Description
Written by a film re-recording mixer who was a Pro Tools beta tester from version 6.9 to 8.5. Simone Corelli has mixed for film and television since 2004 and teaches at Rome's Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia: this guide distils what he teaches every day to his students. Since its first edition in 2012, it has been revised and updated several times.
Who it is for. Readers who are comfortable with a computer and already work with sound: audio students, editors and engineers moving to Pro Tools or wanting to work faster with it. It is not a step-by-step course for absolute beginners. The first chapters cover the core concepts (mixer and signal flow, buses, automation, editing) and end with a hands-on “Action!” chapter: about an hour of reading. The rest of the book is a reference to keep coming back to: menus, preferences, essential keyboard shortcuts, Sketch, Dolby Atmos, troubleshooting and audio levels.
Russ Hughes (www.Pro-Tools-Expert.com): “We took a look at it and were impressed by the care and attention to detail.”
Mike Thornton, Sound on Sound Pro Tools columnist and deputy editor of Pro Tools Expert: “I did appreciate the book, even as a long standing Pro Tools user I found a number of useful features, not least of which the comparison between all the different types of Pro Tools.”
The famous sound engineer Bob Katz presented the original version with an enthusiastic: Simone is the best person I could think of to take you there.
This clear and concise guide takes the reader by the hand through the first steps in the use of Pro Tools, the audio system first released in 1991 and adopted by some of the best professionals worldwide. The title (stopwatch in hand) is accurate for those who can’t wait to get stuck into their new software. However, this guidebook is crammed full of so many theoretical and practical tips, tricks, and points to explore at leisure that you are sure to enjoy many hours (and cups of coffee) poring over these pages.
This is an essential reference tool for anyone taking Pro Tools for a quick test drive and will be cherished by everyone who is on the road to becoming a better sound engineer.
