Description
East to the Black soil is the story of the Korte family's journey from the Sauerland of Germany to the Banat region of southeastern Europe. A similar trek made by tens of thousands of German farmers in that era who were tired of high taxation and other struggles along the Rhine River in Germany. Disenchanted with life there, they took up Queen Maria Theresa's offer of free land and low taxation in the Banat region if they would farm and repopulate it, which had been decimated by the Ottoman Wars. These Germans became the Danube Swabian people.
Join the Korte family in their travels, their struggles, and their accomplishments when they reached the new frontier of the Banat.
