Description
Armenia is a mountainous country in the Caucasus region of western Asia; the average altitude of the country is 1800 m. The highest elevation is the extinct volcano Aragat at 4090 m. The climate is a continental highland climate with moderate humidity. Despite its small size, Armenia has established 4 national parks and around 30 state-protected reserves to preserve its nature. Independently of this, BirdLife International has recognized 18 IBAs (Important Bird and Biodiversity Areas) for Armenia, including the large Lake Sevan at 1900 m altitude, which is home to an important colony of the Armenian Gull but which is also home to many other bird species.
This multilingual (en, de, fr, es, ja, cn) bird guide introduces the entire bird life of Armenia in color. As a bonus, links to HD videos of more than 140 bird species and to audios of more than 75 species are included. Where available, links to the valuable websites of UNESCO, BirdLife International and the Ramsar Organization are provided, which characterize the country and help to find the best sites for birdwatching.
